The 15 moai of Ahu Tongariki

Ahu Tongariki consists in a group of fifteen moai (prehistoric human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people from rock on Easter Island). One of the most famous postcards across Easter Island, Ahu Tongariki, is the greatest monument of the South Pacific. The restoration works of these huge statues ended in 1996 and were made possible by funding from the Japanese government and with the help of a private company from the same country that sent a large crane to the island in order to erect each moai.
