Sunset at getaway island of Phuket, Thailand

The island of Phuket is a province in southern Thailand and the largest of all its many dazzling islands. Connected to the mainland by two bridges, Phuket is also one of Thailand's most developed islands with great resorts, hotels, restaurants, shops and an active nightlife. So, if you want the getaway experience without being completely isolated, this is the island for you.

Offering all the perks that come with your traditionally long white-sanded beaches lined with green palm-trees and inviting clear-blue waters, Phuket also offers plenty in the way of Sino-Portuguese architecture, old towns, monuments, a museum, wildlife, garden centres, viewpoints, cuisine and local cultural events. This is the paradise island with a little extra!

First things first, when you get to Phuket, you'll want to start making the most of the island's extensive beaches such as Hat Patong, Hat Karon and Hat Kamala. Despite each one's popularity among tourists, Hat Patong beach on the central western coast is found in the most developed area with the most social buzz, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops and nightlife. Patong is also one of the top destinations for exciting daytime watersport activities. Hat Karon and Hat Kamala beaches however, are better-known for their beautiful coral reefs making snorkelling or diving the most enjoyable activities in these areas. For an adrenaline rush in Phuket, take an exhilarating speedboat ride across the waters of the Andaman Sea but if you desire something more laidback, a tranquil cruise around the island allows for some great sightseeing and picture-taking.

Once you have spent your morning taking in the warm sun rays whilst surrounded by the serenity of the sparkling ocean, the sounds of the gentle waves and the soft silky sands spend the rest of your day away from the shoreline and head inwards to explore the island's many significant attractions.
