Chain Bridge

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge is the oldest bridge linking the two cities of Buda and Pest, which today form the capital of Hungary. It was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Budapest, and was opened in 1849. Since its construction, the bridge has been the most representative symbol of Budapest. Its photo is an essential element in the presentations about Hungary and Budapest. It has been shown in many stamps, banknotes and Hungarian currencies, as for example in 2009 when it appeared in the currency of 200 forint.
