Grotta Azzurra

The Blue Grotto (Italian: Grotta Azzurra) is a remarkable sea cave on the coast of the Isle of Capri, Italy. Inside the cave, the sea seems to be lit underwater, showing a gorgeous blue colour, hence its name. This is due to another opening in the cave which is completely submerged and located within a layer of limestone rock. It allows the entry of sunlight, illuminating the water from below. The underground passages leading to the grotto are partially closed, although it is believed that they were once connected to the catacombs of Roman tombs.
