Mount Rainier
Mount Rainier is a stratovolcano and the highest mountain in the American state of Washington. Its altitude is 4392 m, and on days of clear weather its glacier-clad peak can be easily spotted from Seattle and other cities. It is the 21st most prominent mountain in the world.
Mount Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world and, because of its large amount of glacial ice, could potentially produce massive lahars that would threaten the whole Puyallup River valley.
Nevertheless, most of the inhabitants of the region feel a great affection for the mountain which figures in the license plate of all cars registered in the state of Washington.
