Dunnottar Castle (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Fhoithear, "fort on the shelving slope") is a medieval castle, now in ruins, located about 3km south of Stonehaven, in the northeastern coast of Scotland. It is open to the public, being visited by hundreds of tourists each year, where the observation of a large number of seagulls and other birds that inhabit the area is still appreciated making this coastal area of Scotland a sanctuary in northen Europe in terms of population and diversity of natural species.
