Walls of Dubrovnik

The Walls of Dubrovnik (Croatian: Dubrovačke gradske zidine) are a series of defensive stone walls that have surrounded and protected the city-state of Dubrovnik (the city was officially called to Ragusa until 1916), located in southern Croatia. It has been considered one of the greatest fortification systems of the Middle Ages, as the walls were never breached by a hostile army during this time period. In 1979, the ancient city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the walls of Dubrovnik, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Nowadays, the arsenal hosts the City Café and a cinema. Meanwhile, the harbour and Porporela (a pier and breakwater in Dubrovnik's Old Harbour) have become tourist attractions and walks.
