Honghe Hani Rice Terraces

Honghe Hani Rice Terraces is the terrace located in the Honghe Prefecture, Yuanyang County, Yunnan, China. Created by Hani ethnicity (one of the many ethnic groups living in Yunnan Province) hundreds of years ago when the area was excavated to plant rice, the Rice Terraces are today one of the most famous landscapes of southern China.

The result of the improvised arrangement of terraces covered with water is a landscape that looks much like an abstract painting. The fog, the sun and the colouring do the rest of the work to provide a stunning view. The colour of the terraces changes according to the time of day, and of course, the weather, so the variety of textures and palettes is indefinable.

In 2013, the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces was listed as a World Heritage Site.
